Arunachal GST Registration: Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Now Mandatory

Arunachal Pradesh has brought biometric-based Aadhaar authentication for applicants in the Goods and Services Tax registration process. This new system is being implemented from December 28, 2024, as a measure of security and also to make the process of registration easy by incorporating biometric data and photo capture along with the verification of the document.

The amended Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017, requires applicants to file their GST REG-01 form and then undergo biometric authentication. After filing the application, the applicant will receive an email with two options, which include an OTP-based Aadhaar authentication link or a link to book an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for biometric verification and document validation. To the ones choosing GSK, it will give an email that mentions the nearest center and jurisdiction. The applicants must book an appointment within the stipulated time and appear at GSK with necessary documents such as original Aadhaar and PAN cards and also the original copy of any uploaded documents.

In GSK, biometric verification will be made, and a validation of the documents would see to it that the applicant details are accurate. If these have been successfully made, then an application reference number is generated to ensure the whole process continues smoothly. Taxpayers must adhere strictly to the instructions set forth in the confirmation email sent out and must ensure all supporting documents are available during the visit. The new system ensures greater accuracy and efficiency in the process of registering for GST.

As such, the state will be the first to execute the biometric verification system. The initiative shows a step that is much needed toward modernizing and securing the GST registration process of India.
