According to the report of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to the Gujarat High Court, the glitches in the Income-tax Portal have almost been resolved. There will be no further interest relief for the late tax report filers.
The professional team had filed a petition last month complaining about the issues faced by the taxpayers while filing their IT returns and uploading their audit reports on the Income-tax e-portal.
The CBDT submitted an affidavit providing clarification about the matter. The report said that the pre-validations of a bank is not a pre-requisite for filing ITR. But pre-validation is mandatory for a successful bank refund. If the process of pre-validation fails for some reason, the taxpayer will be shown the reason as “failed bank accounts”. The taxpayer may seek a new validation after the bank completes the KYC successfully.
While addressing the matter of error in uploading files online on the e-portal, CBDT stated that this issue was raised because the taxpayers had been inserting special characteristics in the fields where addresses and other details were required to be mentioned. This was not a matter of glitch in the online portal.
The taxpayers had also been using the third-party facility in some respect. According to the report of the CBDT, the problem was being caused for incorrect furnishing of information in their software facilities. The taxpayers were making mistakes while filing their reports. The taxpayers who were in possession of multiple credentials have been filing the reports for some other taxpayer while being logged in on someone else’s account. The glitches have been mitigated on December 12 of the previous year.
