The Procedure of Checking Income Tax Refund Status Online

A taxpayer is eligible for a refund when they pay an excessive amount of Income-tax liabilities than the actual amount. The extra amount of tax is refunded to the taxpayer after due assessment by the Income-tax department. The taxpayers are required to file their ITR files to avail of the refund policy. They have to complete the documentation process by providing the necessary documents and id proof regarding the Income and deduction details of the taxpayer.

After the ITR files are submitted by the taxpayer, the Income-tax department verifies the returns and ensures whether the individual is eligible for the refund. The IT return has to be verified online by the taxpayer. Then only the Income-tax department will process the refund. The refund gets credited to the taxpayer within 25-60 days from the day of online verification of the ITR files.

When a taxpayer is eligible for a tax refund and claims the same from the Income-tax department, the individual receives a notice from CPC under the provision of Section 143(1). The intimation received by the taxpayer mentions the details about the refund, that is, the amount of refund that will be credited.

In the current fiscal, the Income-tax department has refunded an amount of Rs.1.67 lakh crore to about 1.87 crore taxpayers till 7 February. 1.48 crore of refunds of the Assessment Year 2021-22 is included in this which amounts almost to Rs.28,704.38 crore.
