Mumbai University has declared to conduct offline exams for the students since the other lower grade exams under the university are being held both in online as well as offline modes. The exams for the traditional courses under Mumbai University are being held in offline and online modes. So, the university has instructed that the exams for the professional courses such as engineering, law, pharmacy, and MCA will also be held in offline mode. The students will be writing offline exams after two years.
The offline pattern of exams for the professional courses will include descriptive and multiple-choice questions. The students writing exams containing the descriptive type papers will be provided with revaluation options.
The new circular regarding the summer exams was officially declared in the later half on Wednesday. Mumbai University is yet to declare the final semester exam pattern for the undergraduate traditional courses.
The director of the Board of Examination and Evaluations, Vinod Patil, stated that a huge number of students appeared for the offline mode of final semester exams. The Board has to take care of the vaccination-related issues and the transportation convenience for the students to reach the examination center before the final dates and the mode of the exam is declared by the University. He added that the results of these exams have to be published as soon as possible without any delay since the scores are important for the students to pursue their higher studies and jobs. He has stated that the final decision regarding these exams will be taken in the first week of March.
For the traditional undergraduate courses, semesters 1, 3, and 5 will be conducted in the online mode. The exams will commence on March 25. Semester 4 will also be held in the online mode from April 4. The first-year students will have to give their Semester 2 exams in the offline mode from May 11. Semesters 1 and 3 for the post-graduate courses will be held online mode from May 2. Semesters 2 and 4 will be conducted in offline mode.
The schedule and the question papers for these exams will be issued by Mumbai University. The answer scripts will be checked centrally. The question pattern of the online exams of the traditional courses will include MCQ type of questions in the college clusters. The timetable for the exams will be the same in all the colleges.
For the professional courses, the time schedule and question papers will be issued by the University. In the question paper, 60 marks will be comprised of descriptive exams and 20 marks will include MCQ type of questions. The law exams will also be held in offline mode. The question paper will include 30 marks of descriptive questions and 30 marks of MCQs. Semesters 1 and 3 of the Bed exams will be held in online mode. 2nd and 4th semesters of the law exams will be offline. The practical exams will be held from March 21 in online or offline mode.
The offline exams will be conducted at the college levels after consulting with the local district administration. The descriptive answers are eligible for revaluation but the MCQ answers are not.
In case, students miss out on the online mode of exams for some technical reasons, they will be provided with an additional opportunity to give the exam. The colleges will have to inform the student about the mode and format of the exam after the final decision is taken by the University.
The final exam schedule and the format of the exam are about to be declared by Mumbai University. The Chairman of the Board of studies for accountancy, Professor Arvind Luthar has stated that Mumbai University had announced summer vacation in May. But the decision of conducting offline exams for Semester 2 in May will cut down the holidays.
