Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has caught an Excise and Taxation Department inspector red-handed on the spot on 9 May, Monday in Gurugram. The inspector has been allegedly accused of receiving a bribe of Rs.2 lakh from a building material supplier for the purpose of issuing a GST number.
According to the report of the inspector who was leading the Vigilance Bureau team, Inspector Sumit Kumar, a Karnal team of the SVB had caught the accused Excise and Taxation Department Inspector, Sumitra Godara from her Excise and Taxation Department office located in Sector 34, Gurugram.
Another Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) has been arrested by the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau team. The arrested officer is Roshan Lal from Faridabad. He has been arrested for referring the building material supplier to Inspector Sumitra Godara. He himself refused his GST application and recommended the supplier to see Inspector Godara.
As the building material supplier met Inspector Godara and applied for a GST number, the officer demanded for a bride of Rs. 7 lakh. Supplier Mohit informed the Vigilance Bureau about this demand. The Haryana Vigilance Bureau laid a trap for the Excise and Taxation Department Inspector. They asked Mohit to agree to pay a bride of Rs.2 lakh to Godara. While the incident was taking place in the Gurugram office of Godara, the Bureau team arrested her after she accepted the bribe.
According to the statement of Inspector Kumar, the State Vigilance Bureau has hired two new officials under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
