The generation of e-Way Bills has been significantly increasing since its launch. The number of bills generated for inter-state trade in goods under the goods and service tax (GST) system has been consistently increasing than that in January. In the first 13 days of February, the generation of e-way bills numbered 23.59 lakh in a single day. The production is 14% higher than the generation that was raised in the first 16 days of January. There has been a massive pick-up rate in commerce in the present month than the last one after the outbreak of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus.
In January, the rate of e-way bill generation had gone down by 4% than that generated in December of the previous year. There were 23.1 lakh bills generated in December 2021 while the number of generations in January 2022 was 22.2 lakhs. The number has massively gone up to 3.07 crores in the first 13 days of February 2022.
E-Way Bills are a proxy of GST revenues. In January, the amount of gross GST collection was Rs.1.41 lakh crores. Since the introduction of GST in July 2017, this amount of GST collection marked the highest mop-up that was ever recorded in the history of comprehensive indirect tax collection.
The GST collection in the month of February can be anticipated to be around Rs.1.3 lakh crore, even though the generation of the e-way bills has gone down by 4% in January 2022 compared to that in December 2021.
Due to the massive dispatches made by the traders and shopkeepers in the festive season of October 2021, the number of bill generations in that month was about 7.35 crore.
