MAGA Meets MIGA: Modi, Trump Unveil Aggressive $500 Billion Trade Target

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced "Make India Great Again" (MIGA) during his US visit, borrowing a page from President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) agenda. Both presidents at the joint press conference also reiterated that there is more coordination between the two countries and direction towards the shared objective of doubling trade to $500 billion in 2030.

America is India's largest trade partner with bilateral trade of $129.2 billion in 2024. The leaders also expressed more energy security and Trump assured once again that America will be India's largest producer of oil and gas.

The Defence alliance was the second draw of the attraction, and Trump set the trend for all subsequent sales of American defence hardware to India, including future sale of F-35 stealth fighter planes. The U.S. and India will also collaborate on the next generation, nuclear development of the same type as the energy production of the countries, thereby increasing India's option to generate energy.

The two nations also have greater commitment on the India-Middle East-Europe (IMEC) corridor, paradigm-shifting trade corridor between India, Israel, Italy and the United States which is transforming the dynamics of world trade. This trip is a new beginning for the India-U.S. alliance, with an emphasis on convergence in such spheres of mutual economic growth, energy security and defence cooperation as Modi's MIGA-call and Trump's MAGA vision come together to construct a better tomorrow.
