Karnataka CM Ready to Exempt GST on Construction Material with Centre’s Cooperation

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai has stated that he is ready to offer GST as claimed by the Central Government along with the royalty exemption on cement, steel, and other construction material. He only demands the Union Government to bear 25 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the construction projects.

The conversation was initiated by Bommai during the foundation laying ceremony for 925 kilometers of national highway projects. The said projects are worth Rs.12,795 crores. At the event, several well-known personalities were also present. Union Minister for Surface Transport and National Highways, Nitin Gadkari, was present at the foundation laying ceremony. He laid the foundation stone for the projects.

According to the statement of Basavaraj Bommai, he would sign a Memorandum of Understanding in this matter if the Centre agrees to his proposal, bearing 25 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the construction projects. He added that the State Government will continue to offer similar concessions if the Central Government agrees to his proposal. He said that the State would provide concessions in implementing the Satellite Town Ring Road project in Bengaluru. Similar concessions will be provided by the State for the projects in other cities like Kalaburagi and Belagavi.

He further added that Karnataka is a progressive state and the State Government would provide all the necessary support and cooperation for the developmental works. Northern Karnataka would be provided with special support and aid for the developmental activities carried out over there.

Bommai said that the developmental works are moving at a great pace under Gadkari. He has expressed his appreciation for the work culture and commitment followed by the Union Minister for Surface Transport and National Highways, Nitin Gadkari. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the impossible measures are being fulfilled. Gadkari is successfully executing the ideas of PM Narendra Modi on the developmental front.

Regarding this context, Basavaraj Bommai remarked that Gadkari has contributed a lot towards the development of Northern Karnataka. The construction of the four-lane Hospet-Hubballi Highway and Chitradurga-Hubballi Highway under the supervision of Gadkari has prevented road accidents to a large extent and relieved the people of the area from traffic-related problems.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka has requested Gadkari to proceed with the work on Kaiga to Ilkal Road as a part of the Naragund-Bilagi-Gajendragad-Kushtagi-Sindhanur National Highway-115.
