The GST Council will next meet via an online platform on December 17, 2022. It is going to be the 48th Meeting of the GST Council, held in a virtual format. The members are going to meet by video conference.
Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman is the chairperson of the Council.
The last meeting, that is, the 47th GST Council meeting was held in late June 2022, in Chandigarh.
A few recommendations were highlighted in the two-day 47th GST Council meeting in Chandigarh in June. According to them, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was hiked for numerous items including LED lamps, solar water heaters and various job works.
At present, the GST rate imposed on printing/writing or drawing ink, LED lamps, lights and fixtures and their metal printed circuit board has been hiked to 18 per cent from 12 per cent. GST charged on polished diamonds is raised to 1.5 per cent from 0.25 per cent.
The new rates recommended by the GST Council became effective on July 18, 2022.
The Group of Ministers led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was set up to re-examine the issues related to Casino, Race Course and Online Gaming in its terms of reference based on further inputs from States, and submit its report after that.
The GST imposed on casinos and online gaming is expected to be tabled in the upcoming council meeting.
