CBI has conducted searches in an on-going investigation of a case at three locations including Mumbai and Pune at the premises of the accused which led to the recovery of incriminating documents, digital devices/gadgets etc. A sum of Rs four lakh (approx.) and Gold Jewellery was recovered from the premises of the then Deputy Director, DGGI (Directorate General of GST Intelligence), Pune.
A case was registered on 11.01.2023 against then Vimlesh Kumar Singh, Deputy Director (IRS-2014), Senior Intelligence Officer Rahul Kumar, both from the office of Director General of GST Intelligence, Pune; private person Sanjit and unknown others on a complaint. It was alleged that the said public servants demanded undue advantage of Rs one crore from the complainant for showing favour and closing the case registered against the complainant’s firm by DGGI, Pune.
Earlier on March 10, 2022, the accused had raided the premises of the complainant on the allegations of tax evasion. The complainant was being repeatedly called for enquiries. He had met the accused who demanded the bribe.
As per the CBI FIR, a written complaint dated 20th April 2022 was received from the complainant regarding the demand of undue advantage of Rs 50 lakh by the accused for not further harassing them and closing the proceedings against them. The allegations mentioned in the complaint have been verified on 20th and 21st April; 25th and 26th May of 2022, as the suspect officials have repeatedly called the complainant and his colleague in connection with enquiry pending with them. The verification has disclosed the demand for an undue advantage of Rs one crore. During the verification, the accused Rahul Kumar in conspiracy with Vimlesh Kumar, Dy Director demanded and agreed to accept part payment of Rs 25 lakh through a private person Sanjit.
After getting permission from the competent authority, an FIR was registered against the accused persons.
