A senior intelligence officer of the GST department has been arrested by the CBI officials on Sunday. The arrested GST officer has been working in the office of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Ghaziabad. The officer has been allegedly accused of taking a bribe worth Rs.60 lakh.
According to the report, the accused officer had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs. 1 crore from a businessman to show favour to his father regarding an ongoing case against him in return. The businessman has complained to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the GST officer asking for a bribe.
CBI registered a case against the GST officer, Mohit Dhankar who has been allegedly accused of demanding a bribe worth Rs.1 crore.
According to the statement of CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi, the sum of Rs.1 crore was demanded by the GST officer through private persons to show official favours to the father of the complainant regarding a case at the DGGI, Ghaziabad that was charged against him. He added that the department had laid a trap to catch a private person, Rakesh Sharma. He has been accepting a bribe worth Rs.60 lakh as the first instalment of the bribe amount on behalf of a public servant.
Mohit Dhankar has eventually been caught by the CBI officials. According to the statement of Joshi, the officials are conducting raids at his premises.
